There are many different coat colours in the Border Collie, not just the Traditional Black and White. Up until 2018 not all colours were recognised by the ANKC, but now they are. On this page we will show you the different colours, that we have produced or might be able to achieve in the future.
Solid colours are Black & White, Blue & White, Chocolate & white, Red & White, Lilac & White
Tri Colours come in array of colours Black Tri, Blue Tri, Chocolate Tri, Lilac Tri and Merle Tri
Merle is a genetic pattern that can be in a dog’s coat. The merle gene creates mottled patches of colour, the colour of the patches determines the colour of the dog.
Sable a unique coat pattern characterized by a tan base color with black tips on the hairs, often appearing as a brown and black mix. The sable pattern can appear on various base colors like black, chocolate, blue, lilac and merle. From my experience you can have a black based or brown based sable. When it comes to a merle sable I find it very interesting as they lose the merle pattern when they are growing and not sure if it comes back, as I have only introduced the sable into my lines in 2024 I am still learning about this colour and find it very interesting.
Seal colour is a specific coat coloration in the breed, where the sable gene is expressed incompletely, resulting in a dark dog with a subtle tan or faded appearance, often mistaken for black and white. They can come all the colours. I have not bred any seal at this stage
